Moscow & St Petersburg: two perspectives on Russia

Two capitals through architecture, art and everyday life. Eight days with cultural guiding, an intercity train journey and a programme shaped around your group.

8 days / 7 nights · private group · dates on request

Moscow — intercity train — St Petersburg — a selected palace estate

The Neva: a city facing the water

A journey with substance

Moscow reveals Russia through squares, side streets, the metro and the movement of a large city. St Petersburg responds with long perspectives, water and museum collections. Together they tell a story of changing ideas about government, beauty and everyday life.

Familiar landmarks gain context. With a guide, read architecture, choose museum themes and notice the details of urban life. The group’s own interests can lead towards art, crafts or contemporary culture. The train between the capitals is part of the experience; visits and special encounters are arranged in advance.

This is an itinerary concept on request, not a confirmed departure. Hotels, guides, transport, visits, price and the final service list are confirmed for each group.

Three threads of the journey

Reading the city

Red Square, historic neighbourhoods and the metro are connected through stories of city life. The route follows a theme chosen with the group.

Art with a guide

Museum days focus on selected themes and works. Potential visits to the Hermitage and other museums depend on tickets and opening arrangements.

Two characters of one country

Three nights in Moscow and four in St Petersburg allow time for everyday observations, food interests and a session with your own host.

Who this journey is for

Squares and Saint Basil’s silhouette introduce the making of a capital. Look beyond the familiar view to the city’s stories and details.

Moscow Metro: architecture in motion

Mayakovskaya reveals the metro as part of the city’s artistic identity. Stations and visiting times are selected around transport operations.

St Petersburg: the Winter Palace

The palace façade sets the scale of imperial St Petersburg. For the museum visit, select a coherent theme and available rooms rather than attempting everything.

Your 8-day journey

Moscow: 3 nights · St Petersburg: 4 nights

Open a day for details. The order of visits is refined when your journey is planned.

Airport transfer, hotel check-in and an introduction to the journey. A suitable arrival time may allow a short city walk and a first shared dinner. Discuss interests, dietary requests and a comfortable amount of walking.

Overnight in Moscow. Activities depend on arrival time.

Red Square and the historic centre introduce the city’s layers. An interior visit to the Kremlin or another selected museum is possible after advance confirmation. Explore a section of the metro as both architecture and a setting for everyday journeys.

Overnight in Moscow. Tickets, access and the order of visits are agreed separately.

Choose a theme: an art collection, an architectural walk, a workshop or a contemporary neighbourhood. A meeting with an artist or craftsperson is discussed beforehand and is not a guaranteed service. The afternoon allows for individual exploration and a shared conversation.

Overnight in Moscow.

Travel between the capitals by train, with the timetable and class agreed in advance. After check-in, discover central St Petersburg and the water that shapes it. The day leaves room for the change of setting rather than distant excursions.

Overnight in St Petersburg. The train and baggage arrangements are confirmed when booking.

A museum day explores selected themes in the Hermitage or another agreed collection. Guiding connects the works to their architectural and historical setting. Afterwards, follow one central city route, allowing for lunch and personal impressions.

Overnight in St Petersburg. The museum and programme depend on available tickets and opening arrangements.

Explore historic neighbourhoods, embankments and accessible public spaces beyond the main museum visits. The day can take a literary, craft or culinary direction. During the navigation season, a boat outing may be arranged separately; its route and inclusion are confirmed beforehand.

Overnight in St Petersburg.

Dedicate the day to one estate, Peterhof or Pushkin, chosen for season and availability. Landscape design, palace architecture and museum interpretation reveal another dimension of Russian culture. In the evening, gather to reflect on the journey.

Overnight in St Petersburg. Fountains, interiors and special events are included only when confirmed.

Transfer for departure from St Petersburg according to the agreed international routing. Additional nights or a return via Moscow are quoted separately. Another independent Russia itinerary can be considered as an extension.

The base concept is eight days and seven nights, with no fixed departure.

One route, shaped by your interests

A cultural group

Build the journey around architecture, museums, crafts, food and conversations with local people. Special encounters are arranged after agreement.

A community and its own host

Allow room for a thematic meeting or a session led by your own host. Venue, interpreting and content are included in the planning process.

A private or family group

Adjust walking, service, accommodation and breaks to the travellers. Suitable arrangements for children or reduced mobility are checked separately.

Pace, season and comfort

When to travel

The route can be adapted to different seasons. Discuss warmer months for parks, water and longer walks; a winter version allows more indoor time. White nights and fountain operation depend on actual dates and conditions.

Where to stay

Select conveniently located hotels in both cities and agree categories and rooms. Train class, meals and guiding in English or another language are specified in the proposal. Named hotels and guides are not yet booked.

Activity level

City walks, museums, steps and station changes require a suitable pace. Use more transport or shorter walks where needed. Accessibility at individual museums is checked for the group in advance.

What your proposal will specify

Agree seven nights’ accommodation, transfers, the intercity train, guiding and selected tickets. Museum themes, the palace estate, meals, boating and special encounters are itemised separately. Only services listed in the confirmed proposal are included.

What is considered separately

Unless your individual proposal states otherwise, international flights, visa expenses, insurance, personal purchases, single-room supplements, tips and additional activities are considered separately. Documentation and insurance requirements are checked against the programme actually selected.

How to get a quotation

The quotation is prepared for your group after confirming season, numbers, accommodation, guiding language, meals and special activities. The proposal specifies inclusions, supplements, confirmation steps and change conditions. Publishing an itinerary does not confirm a price or service availability.

Practical arrangements

Before booking, check entry requirements for each traveller’s nationality, current official advice, location restrictions, insurance, transport and payment arrangements. Acceptance of a particular foreign bank card is not promised. Required permits and expenses are identified in the agreed service list.

Before you enquire

This is a tailor-made itinerary outline. Dates, group composition and services are agreed before quotation and confirmation. Publication does not mean an open departure or reserved places.

The guiding language is specified in the proposal. International groups can request English; Hindi, Turkish, German and other languages require a separate availability check. Website translations do not confirm a guide in every language on every date.

Tell us your specific requirements: vegetarian or Jain meals, halal preferences, ingredient restrictions and allergies. We check the selected hotels and restaurants. The confirmed menu and preparation arrangements are agreed separately; preferences are never assumed from nationality.

Yes. Discuss thematic sessions, activities and time for your group. Host, venue, equipment, interpreting and schedule are confirmed separately. Evgenia Maslova or any other named author is not automatically included.

Include your company, source market, numbers, proposed dates and group requirements in the itinerary enquiry. WST’s partnership page is available for cooperation discussions. Commercial terms are agreed separately; this itinerary creates no new automatic discounts or commissions.
